TILES

The tiles on this site are so far all dutch, though this will change in time. I discovered and fell in love with ‘test tiles’ (a company’s chosen ink palette and pigments checked regularly) when I went to tile making class, and I thought them far more interesting and original than most of the commercial hand painted tiles on offer. They are not ‘perfect’ at all and note the pin process-marks in some corners, but, especially when combined, they are unlike anything you will find in the shops or online. I am obsessed with them, and have kept a few for HIPPO’s kitchen worktop. Perfect for hot pans, and an abstract block of colour.

I have included some extraordinary hand-painted tiles that ARE in perfect condition. These are the ones that stole my heart and I had to snap up before someone else did. Prices have been kept low because I was given small discounts, and all prices include postage and packing. In the HIPPO shop €40 is the minimum spend as track and trace p&p comes at a premium, esp post-Brexit. I cannot keep these tiles onboard as boat space is tight, so they are for you, if you love them too.

Having learnt a little about tile making since being in The Netherlands, my respect for the skill involved has soared. My favourite large art-tile on sale is €1200 but it is truly a masterpiece. This total price as with all the art on the HIPPO site, will go to the artist.
